I am new to ACIM and looking for guidance

Hey everyone :)

I was introducted to ACIM about 15 years ago, but I wasn't ready for the message then. I had quite a few incredible things happen over the last couple of months and started meditating again. Then it came that I should find my ACIM book and open it up.

I haven't found a group that meets in person (yet) and have a question about lessons 1, 2, and 3. It seems from reading it that the intent is to release attachment and expectations from everything in the material world. I am curious if it is really that simple or if I am missing something.

Any and all insight is appreciated.

A Course In Miracles in a digital Notebook format

As most of you are familiar with the Course and it's publishing history, you know that since the original version went into public domain a few years ago, there have been a few html versions available online. I've edited one of these for typos, spelling, and punctuation. I reformatted it in a digital journal format - Circus Ponies' Notebook - with Cornell Note Taking pages that turn the whole thing into a personal journal with a column to write in and A Course In Miracles in the next column. There are a lot of other features and advantages in using the Notebook format. Have a look at the web page here:

I edited this from an html public domain version that was (and is still online, I think). It was full of typos, British spellings, and italics. I started putting it in Circus Ponies' Notebook software (Mac only) for my own convenience. Later, I thought the format would be of interest to others, so when I completed it, I offered it on the web.

I'm working on putting the Workbook in the same format. This time, I am re-typing from scanned page images in pdf of an early typed version. It looks like it might have been the second typing, possibly the first, but I don't know that. It does have some hand written editing on some pages. While, I'm working on this, I am putting the Workbook lessons online, one lesson at a time, in case anyone is interested.

The site is still in early stages, but you are are welcome to check it out.

Btw, I have a 1976 hard cover edition and a 1988 softcover edition of A Course In Miracles. I've worked with the Course in digital format exclusively since 2001. I've been involved with the Course directly since the mid-1980's.

Empathy as Forgiveness

Yesterday's lesson for me was #63 "Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world." And today I found myself launching a social network designed to (hopefully) bring more empathy into the lives of, well, as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

Empathy, as I "use" it in my life and work, means first just being present with someone, no matter what they're experiencing or doing. No attention is given to fear, and therefore none is given to blame, criticism, defensiveness etc. The experience of the person I'm with is like my own - they're experiencing feelings I've experienced and needs I've experienced, no matter how "egoic" their experience. I've been there too in some way, even if I've never said exactly what they're saying or done what they're doing. Implicit in this is a sense that there is nothing for which they need to be judged, and hence nothing for which they need to be "forgiven" in the traditional sense. For me then, empathy is very closely related to forgiveness as ACIM defines it.

Incidentally, my version of empathy is inspired by Marshall Rosenbergs "Nonviolent Communication" - so I'm very interested to hear from anyone who is living with ACIM and NVC as big influences in their life.

meditation, A Course In Miracles style

Through all the various exercises that one goes through while doing the workbook, some of them gradually teach one how to meditate.

The last time I did the Course, in the 70's, nearing the end of the lessons I had difficulty remembering where to find the basic instructions to meditation.

The lesson I was on yesterday, lesson 44, has some instruction on how to meditate (though it is not using the actual word meditation) that I'd like to write here. So that I can find it later easily, and for anyone else who'd like this kind of pointer (reminder) who has done the Course already, or is past lesson 44.

We all could use reminders from time to time on how to meditate. And if you all have other excerpts from the Workbook, Text, or Teacher's Manual that teach us how to meditate A Course in Miracles style, let's add them to this thread.

Here are excerpts from lesson 44, "God is the Light in which I see", which brought me to a deep state of meditation:

"Begin the practice period by repeating today's idea with your eyes open, and close them slowly, repeating the idea several times more. Then try to sink into your mind, letting go every kind of interference and intrusion by quietly sinking past them. Your mind cannot be stopped in this unless you choose to stop it. It is merely taking its natural course. Try to observe your passing thoughts without involvement, and slip quietly by them.

"While no particular approach is advocated for this form of exercise, what is needful is a sense of the importance of what you are doing; its inestimable value to you, and an awareness that you are attempting something very holy. Salvation is your happiest accomplishment. It is also the only one that has any meaning, because it is the only one that has any real use to you at all.

"If resistance rises in any form, pause long enough to repeat today's idea, keeping your eyes closed unless you are aware of fear. In that case, you will probably find it more reassuring to open your eyes briefly. Try, however, to return to the exercises with eyes closed as soon as possible.

"If you are doing the exercises correctly, you should experience some sense of relaxation, and even a feeling that you are approaching, if not actually entering into light. Try to think of light, formless and without limit, as you pass by the thoughts of this world. And do not forget that they cannot hold you to the world unless you give them the power to do so."

my notes:
I found the "sink into your mind" and "sinking past" intrusive thoughts, to be a particularly helpful instruction. It is indeed a sort of sinking that brought me to an expansive state of awareness that is utterly different from one's usual state of perception. Sinking and expanding in true meditation.

CHOOSING LOVE INSTEAD OF FEAR (the only reason we're here)

The only reason we incarnate is to learn how to choose love instead of fear. It does not matter what you do for a living, where you live, or who you marry, etc. The only purose you have is to extend love to everyone you come into contact with, including yourself. This is how you BECOME what you already ARE: LOVE. The only way to restore perfect inner peace that is stable and unwavering is to choose to be willing to extend love to everyone you come into contact with, including yourself.

By "love" I mean unconditional acceptance. And by "unconditional acceptance" I mean God. By "you" I mean me. And by "me" I mean you. We are all ONE and we are all LOVE. And by "we" I mean GOD. And by "God" I mean LOVE...You get the picture!

The most amazing miracle has transpired in my life over the last 24 hours as a result of my own sincere willingness to be a vessell for love, to be a vessell for that which I AM, which is God. I wanted to share...

I put a profile on My Space about a month ago. I saw a woman on there named Joni Ellen Jenkins. This is my name. I almost asked her to join my friend list but hesitated and then did nothing. I had a very stressful custody hearing scheduled with my son's father yesterday. When I got home from the courthouse yesterday there was an e-mail from Joni Ellen Jenkins who lives in Pennsylvania. Her e-mail address is jonijenks@gmail.com and mine is jonijenkins@gmail.com. She had suspected that her insurance company had sent e-mails meant for her to me. Sure enough I had the e-mails in my box that day. We started to breifly chat and make small talk through e-mails. She invited me to join her friend list on My Space. One thing led to another and she told me she had cancer and is only a 40 year old mom. I am a 39 year old mom. I started writing to her from a spiritual perspective, and then suddenly I realized what was going on!

Here is the last e-mail I sent to her; this is incredilbe!!

Oh my God, I think that meeting you has been the greatest gift God has ever given me!

I have been trying to release all my own walls to self love, with perfect inner peace being the goal. I have made much progress but there was still a little bit of work left.

I went through a traumatizing custody trial with my son's father yesterday, but won. However the experience made me more aware of my own walls to love. When I came home from the courthouse I got your e-mails.

I know why I hesitated when I first saw the My Space profile. There was a timing issue. I was meant to make contact with you right after court when my own fears were so triggered and my walls to love were easy to see.

When you told me about the cancer my heart was flooded with so much love and compassion for you. It is always easier to see someone else's perfection and divinity than your own. It is always easier to see someone else's wall to self love than it is to see your own. As I was loving you and contemplating that we have the exact same name, Joni Ellen Jenkins, the reality that we (all of humanity) really are ONE permeated my consciousness. The truth is that you are love, you are God, and you are soooooooooo powerful and perfect. All you need do is forgive yourself for forgetting the truth. That is always easier said than done. And all I need do is forgive myself for forgetting the truth. By loving you so deeply I have let down yet another wall to self-love and that is the greatest gift I have ever received. When I love you I love myself becasue we are, in truth, ONE. The fact that we have the same name is just a coincidence, but has aided me in dramatically shifting and healing my perception.

You truly are God--you knew exactly when the right time was to contact me so that the highest form of healing would take place for both of us.

Thoughts on family drama and compassion

I shaved my head last month for Tibet. My father is very conservative and not speaking to me as a result. I live 1000 miles away. It's not like I'm around anyone who even knows him. it's always the same thing, whether I'm failing a math class, or sleeping with an older man. I cease to exist for him. My initial reaction is the desire to just say F*ck You. If moral conviction is something you're ashamed of, etc etc etc. I haven't said anthing to him, instead. I'm just absorbing this latest drama, and trying to let to pass thru and by w/o making an issue of it, but i feel like by not confronting the fact that he's ignoring me, I'm giving up my power. I think what I'm actually angry about is that he's missing out on knowing me, and having an authentic relationship with me based on his need to fill a parental role. It's a total lie in my space. Thoughts on family relationships? or lack of?

Reading from the textbook

Last night I began reading the Textbook from the beginning. I have read it through once before and read the beginning chapters about 3 other times, never got very far into it for some reason those times. Usually my method over the years has been to open up the book randomly and read one section of one chapter. It always seems to fit the situation in which I find myself that day when I do that.

I have heard some people say that reading the text is a little hard. Not that enjoyable or something. There are times when I would have to agree with that. Obviously in the several times I have started reading the ACIM textbook since I first did ACIM many years ago that is how it seemed to me. Well last night I took the textbook to bed and read from a relaxed frame of mind, at the end of my day, when I have nothing I need to get done afterwards. I was able to read slowly and I found I really enjoyed it.

I am going to read the text slowly like that this time. Whether I read it at the end of the day, or earlier, I am going to read it very slowly and let the words come one sentence at a time to me.

For me, it's when I am trying to rush through the pages, because I have a time limit, things to do afterwards, etc. that the words seem too hard to follow. It can all seem too much.

This time I am going to not push myself to read any set amount. I read the first chapter last night, and quite enjoyed doing so. If I only do one paragraph next time I pick it up, or the whole next chapter, I will do it slowly and with care. I find it quite enjoyable.

I am reading the original edition version of A Course in Miracles.

Do any of you have some thoughts you'd like to share on how you read the textbook? (Whichever version you prefer.)

Shutting down

Last night my husband and I were in a very loving place. I was happy and radiantly open, and then "he hurt my feelings" by denying me what I felt like was a need. How do we deal with this... I was so open that it felt like a slap in the face and I shut down. We had a miserable day today. It's like I stopped the flow of life through my body. I know I could have chosen a different response, that he isn't responsible for my feelings. I'm wondering what other people do to remain open and loving. ANd, why do you think we shut down life this. It's a self-punishment almost is what it feels like. I suppose the ego wouldn't react like this unless it thought the result would be getting what it wanted.

Last time something came up I was able to bring consciousness into suffering and recognize that this is like a patch of disease in a relationship, and just let it drop away, but we're still locking horns today.

Thoughts?

for me personaly my body can be a drag. with its needs, requests etc.
the spirit wants to fly. the body hardly catches up. i can feel the life, but the physical

Freedom and Limits

Just in case you thought this is complicated...

"Truth and illusion are simply incompatible. Just as
freedom and limitation are incompatible. It is
impossible for them to exist together because Truth is
the absence of illusion and illusion is the absence of
Truth. When we try to see both, the mind becomes
split, trying to rationalize two incompatible ideas
that cannot coexist. It's no wonder we often feel so
conflicted or feel pulled in so many directions. So
we go through life trying to go in all these
directions all at once. The idea that we can see both
Truth and illusion is the source of our idea of
separation. As long as we continue to try to see
both, we will keep ourselves limited. Truth, then, is
the absence of separation. It is the presence of
Oneness or unity. This is true freedom. This is the
Source of love, peace, and joy. If we let go of the
ideas that keep us separated and distracted form
Truth, we will find our true wholeness, the awareness
of who we really are. Instead of feeling bound by all
the directions our life seems to take us, we can let
go of all the illusions that keep us so distracted and
let Truth come to the surface. The Holy Spirit is
just waiting to take us by the hand and lead us if we
will only let ourselves be led. This is freedom. We
have the ability to choose freedom and let the Truth
set us free. So make that choice for freedom today.

Just started the course

I've been lucky enough to find a study group that meets weekly. My mother started the course a few years ago on her own and struggled through before quiting a short time later. It's a mind bender!

I found reading "Return to Love" made it a little easier to absorb the information.

We are currently reading Chapter 8- The Journey Back. I love the quote "Evaluate the ego based on it's results".... Simplistic!

Anyone else have affirmations or quotes from the course that resonate with them? :)

Direct Experience

The Disappearance of the Universe

About one month ago and yes I will be honest and bold in admitting here on the internet, that I ingested what I will call a personal medicine. I did it alone late at night in the hopes I could get some perspective on where my life was going as I was feeling a bit energetically and mentally stuck. I remember Jerry Garcia was interviewed one time and asked if he still used certain medicines. He replied that he liked visiting the goddess of fungus from time to time because it helped him “Blowout the Pipes” I wanted to blow out my own pipes like Jerry LOL!

Anyway, I was not prepared for the experience I had. My perception of life and the entire universe was completely shifted, or, perhaps a better description would be “turned upside down.” I have ingested many types of medicines in various doses over the years, but never have I experienced anything like this. My entire body was illuminated as was everything within my field of vision. It was a bit overwhelming to keep my eyes open so I closed them and decided to go inside for a journey. I guess you could call it a journey, although I did not go anywhere. My attention was on staying in present time which, amazingly enough, was incredibly easy to do unlike other more VISUAL medicines where you can get easily distracted and amused. I perceived myself as being in an illuminated circle or bubble. It was so blissful and timeless that I forgot I had a body. Suddenly, I found myself in my body and opened my eyes, it was like awakening from a dream, but then I closed my eyes again and found it easy to return to my bubble. What was interesting was it was like going through a portal where everything went blurry but then came into focus. I started oscillating back and forth between that bubble and my body and found it to be somewhat amusing. But, as I continued doing this, I started to perceive things much differently than I ever have. I started comparing my physical existence to my present moment bubble, having all of these revelations about space, time, the Earth, everyone on the earth, my friends, my family, politicians, the economy, countries, etc etc…. Here is what was interesting. Every time I would re enter my body, I would see more and more clearly how I was connected to the entire universe and my interpersonal relationship with it. Interestingly enough compared to my present moment bubble the universe did not seem like a very nice place. I could feel my body’s constant hunger for food, for love, for attention, basic never ending survival maintenance. Extended outward I could see how the entire universe was a hungry entity as well, requiring never ending maintenance and attention. HUH? I thought…… Why would God create such a hungry insatiable beast? It got a bit overwhelming for me so I happily returned to my present time bubble. Here there was no hunger or need for maintenance. It was all taken care of here. “Interesting” I thought! Soon I was back in my body and I began to further contemplate my incarnation on this planet. I could see very clearly without a doubt that everything in the external universe was a big projection. Literally, just like a movie projecting on a big 3 dimensional canvass or screen! None of it was real!

I then went into a shadow aspect of my life and began processing many of my fears. What I experienced was astonishing! Every time a fear would come into my awareness I would say, “I forgive you” and the image of the fear would vanish. One fear after another fear came again and again and I repeated this process until I found myself going beyond my personal fears and into the “collective” fears of the human family. What I saw here completely turned my perception of the universe upside down. I saw how almost our entire global economy and exchange of information is based on the premise of scarcity, fear of being abandoned, fear of criticism, fear of death, and the list goes on and on. It all comes down to the human unconscious belief in “lack of” Wow, so all this stuff I think I need is really just a symbol of my belief in scarcity, fear of judgment, fear of being alone or abandoned? HOLY SHIT! Then what is this world but a hungry insatiable beast & literally a projection of these unconscious beliefs? This as you can imagine was pretty unsettling as years of programming were being undone in an instant in my mind, but, just as I forgave my own fears, so to I began the process of forgiving all of these collective fears present in my own field of awareness. What followed was truly amazing. Through all of this I realized something that has since become a fundamental truth for me as a spiritual being in this world. Very simply, whatever you do not fear cannot hurt you. There is nothing in this universe that has any real power of its own, you are the one who animates it all and makes it real. We are all doing this collectively of course. I then started playing out different scenarios in my mind of the most common fears people have and how entire world economies depend on them to sustain themselves. What a scam! I thought! I then retreated back to my Present time bubble and could perceive all of these unconscious fears trying to follow me into this space. They we like energy bubbles shaped like teardrops all parading around me trying to get my attention. They would appear as things very familiar to me. As I sat in my bubble I could see a few of them trying to breach my bubble’s wall. A few of them did and as I examined them closely I could see they were my own unconscious fears. As they approached me I said, “I am not afraid of you, you are pure illusion”. They instantly dissolved and got pushed out my bubble. One after another came through and I repeated the process for each one until I was just left sitting there feeling totally @ peace and provided for. There was nothing I had to do, nothing to prove, no errands to run, nothing to maintain, nothing to hide. Suddenly, one of my favorite Taoist passages made perfect sense to me in that moment…………

“By attrition he reaches a state of inaction
Wherein he does nothing, but leaves nothing undone.

To conquer the World, do nothing;
If you must do something,
The World remains beyond conquest.”

It then dawned on me, a thought I once considered almost blasphemous to even consider. Perhaps God did not create this world. God to me is Love, and Love seems very lacking in this world. Suddenly I saw images of all of the Wars this planet has seen, all of the conflict and ugliness that has played itself out over the span of our existence all rolled into a single perception. I thought of all of the times I would get angry at God for allowing such terrible thing s to happen. It did not make any sense to me. If God created this world he seems to not really give a shit about it! Often times I have had these thoughts, more often than I care to know. Wow, what if this universe is just a big projection of something very dark within our collective unconscious? Is anyone truly happy in this world? If so I would sure like to take that person’s seminar! Really! I need to be honest here. To many of you reading this I know I must sound like I am just looking at everything through a negative lens. Yes there are countless beautiful things in this universe and yes there is love, but what I experienced I cannot just dismiss.

Ok, now here begins the second part of my adventure and the next step into my new perception of the universe. Not more than maybe 3 days after having this experience I found myself checking my email. As I was deleting some spam I noticed a press release from Hay House publishing company. (Hay House is a large company that publishes books on spirituality) I normally do not open spam messages but something told me to “check it out” What I saw was an advertisement for a book called “The disappearance of the Universe” by Gary Renard. The title was intriguing to me considering what I had experienced just a few days prior. A feeing came over me & without hesitation I clicked the “BUY” button. This is unusual for me as I am not an impulsive person when it comes to buying stuff. Something just felt right about it so I felt good about the purchase. Maybe 5 days later a package arrived and my wife signed for it. She brought it to me and I immediately opened it. It was the book! I instantly started reading it and could and could not put it down! The book is the account of The Author, Gary Renard, and his experience of being visited by two ascended masters that began a process of teaching him about the nature of the universe and God. As I read the first few chapters I was simply floored! I grabbed my highlighter pen and began highlighting passages on almost every page. Basically, everything I read in this book validated every aspect of my experience. The two ascended masters basically told Gary very simply and point blank that the universe just is a giant multi dimensional projection of our unconscious fears and guilt. Furthermore the conflict that we see in the world is just a symbol of us collectively trying to cope with the guilt of the initial “separation” we experienced from God eons ago. God did not create this world they said, the EGO mind created it within the larger mind of God, the ego being symbolic of the desire to be individual and apart from God which is, as they implied, “impossible”. This of course suggests that the universe is an illusion and that we never really left God at all. We are simply having a collective ego nightmare for which God is in the process of gently waking us up.

Well, this was a bit much for me to digest as you can imagine. After years of believing that God did create the universe and that perhaps just the Earth was screwed up, and that God was just “testing “ us to see how well we would make use of our gift of free will, well, all that was now shattered. I could not negate what I experienced directly in favor of an old belief for which I had no backing.

Take this all in as you will, it is my own experience and I am not asking anyone to invest in it. My motive is to just share that perhaps you may find a nugget of truth for your self.

Onward we go, pealing off layers of illusion. Freedom is my goal, and Love is my guide……..

Breaking Through

My husband is sleeping on the couch tonight after a fight, that I suppose you really could not call a fight since there was no resistance in me. I realized tonight in a very concrete way that I can't force anyone to let go of their fear. It didn't really dawn on me that that's what I had been trying to do. I was open and in surrender, but, through wanting him to join me there, I was holding onto an expectation of something he couldn't be. He wanted to invest in an ego response and he wanted an excuse to build walls. And I just realized that it was okay, that it didn't need to have any impact on me whatsoever, that I could say "No" without any emotioanl resistance. It was such a freeing experience. I am really seeing the need to be an example of love, instead of trying to drag everyone up by their boot straps kicking and screaming. It's amusing to me that he's sleeping on the couch when he could be, bluntly, making love to me right now. I'm happy. How strange.

I recently read a brief article by Robert Perry that
rasied an extremely intereting point. One I think is very
worthy of conversation.

What do you think? He says:

"A great deal of the accepted wisdom about the Course is simply not true.

To give you a small tase of what I mean, let's look at something as basic
as the miracle. We all know that a miracle is a shift in perception, right?...
Yet actually the Course nevr says this, not once. While it does occasionally
talk about miracles that are internal, it almost always characterizes a miracle
as an extension of healed perception from a giver (or "miracle worker") to a
receiver (a "miracle receiver"-- see T I.VII.3:10 and 2.V.3:2). ...

... When people approach the Course, I see them do the same few things
over and over again. First, they primarily see what they have been taught to
see, by other students and teachers, as well as the general spiritual
smorgasbord out there. You can even tell which teachers and teachings
they have been influenced by. Second, they are mostly blind to the things
they haven't been taught to see. Third, they latch onto a few simple concepts
and see them everywhere."

What do you think? I tend to agree. There are many ideas in the books
that are rarely discussed.

He has a lot to say about identifying with our ego or pesona that keep us stuck in interactions with each other and colors our perceptions of our experice as a humna. I think he has a very interesting way of presenting the ideas that are in ACIM without ever mentioning it. Doesn't even matter where he got it from, it is an extremely useful perspective.

and correct perception of our inherent Divinity as it is."

What external divinity? Who said that? Teacher...your explanation defines two separate things ("Spiritual Eye and Holy Spirit") while denying separation. As stated in my post it seems to me that the Spiritual Eye is an aspect of the Holy Spirit (therefore no separation but a line of communication between each child of God and the Holy Spirit). So can you please give me an example of how or in what way both the Spiritual Eye and the Holy Spirit has helped you in your own personal life to further my understanding of your statement?

I would like to also add that I have read (I say again...read) that there is a Holy Watcher (Spiritual Eye) within each soul and the Watcher is an aspect of the Holy Spirit. Because of this it bears witness, yes, but does not judge or intervene, just records and sees all. Which is why your previous post about it sparked such an interest. So that is why I carry the subject further Teacher to understand it more. :)

uhmmm...maybe I should have made this a different post or topic since now everything is going under the title, "Hugh Lynn Cayce" edition of ACIM (jeez).

will God heal?

I spoke with a prayer encourager about my sister's baby Abigail Rose who is in a coma. (You can read her story and see her photo at www.nunzia.blogspot.com) and she told me that it's not God's will for the baby to die b/c it doesn't glorify God. I don't know that I believe that because sometimes God wills things we don't understand. Still I pray for a miracle, but it is possible?

of a fleet of Pleiadian Lightships on November 11, and we are here to

and Mexico are both hotspots for much UFO activity, yes, and we would
love to appear again in the skies over Mexico, which is generally
part of that region. Mexico is a motherland for an emerging
consciousness of New World Spirituality, and we are already quite
invested in meeting regularly with various receptive individuals
there, many of which are little children of the new DNA type.

The DNA of your species is rapidly changing, and 11-11 (11:11) is a
very significant sign of that. Be open and aware, we ask you, to grow
with us along this evolutionary journey, for we are right beside you

circular formation of your Lightships which spontaneously appeared in

Lightships) with a center star (Lightship) is a formation of our
fleets which may represent this 11-11 Human/Pleiadian Gateway which
we speak of, and it also represents your eleventh chakra and the
eleventh dimension, as well as the eleventh DNA code.

beginning of another Mercury Retrograde?"] Patience. We are

this, but this particular Mercury Retrograde is very unique in that
it falls in alignment with this accelerated shift that began this
summer. Your friend who saw the "circles within circles" was of
course seeing a representation of overlapping planetary cycles, as
well as overlapping cycles in general, which of course includes
interdimensional cycles. This Mercury Retrograde is charged with the
Ultraviolet Rays of October 17 (which, as you just realized, was

It is normal, friends, to notice that as your Inner Light expands your human consciousness beyond its own temporary confines, that many unresolved fears may begin to quickly surface, especially if you are dedicated to rapidly accelerating your personal ascension. This is the case, more and more, and we beings of light cannot but laugh in the spirit of joy when we see that you are willingly accepting this responsibility. It brings us great joy in simply knowing that you are all well taken care of, and if you but relax for a moment or two you can actually feel the warmth of our smiles shining upon you, like the benevolent Sun constantly warms Mother Earth!

You are not alone in your joys and your pains, for not only is every other being in Creation riding along with you on your journey, but the Source of Creation, Itself, is forever present as you move from place to place, moment to moment and lesson to lesson. All experience is shared, my friends, so forgive me as I laugh in joy while some of you are crying in pain, for this laughter is indeed intended to aid you in your suffering as a healing balm to be applied to your very wounds. Gary Renard & DU

I just finished reading Renard's DU and am already more than halfway through his sequal "Your immortal Reality"

I had an experience a week before I started reading DU in which I actually experienced myself "projecting" my thoughts and seeing them become my perceived reality. It was pretty amazing and it shifted my perception about life completely. What I also took away from the experience was that the world seemed inverted, like a hungry insatiable beast, never satisfied, always wanting and needing and creating more and more problems for itslelf. But I was creating it all in the moment, and man, it almost freaked me out. SO when I started reading these books I grabbed a highlighter pen and begain highlighting away. Basically, the material in these books has backed up what I experienced. Forgiveness is a powerful tool indeed.

Two Pictures: Text Chapter 17

Once again-- a synopsis from my friend Karl Vidt,
an awesome ACIM teacher. A great conversation starter.

As we gaze at the two pictures in front of us, trying
to decide what to look at, we find we can't look at
both at the same time. The pictures represent our
thought systems, the way we think. When we allowed
the thought of separation to settle itself in our
minds, we began to think apart from God. We never
actually separated from God because that is
impossible. God doesn't create by separation, only by
extension. So we, in our minds, thought ourselves
separate. It is an insane thought, and all we do to
preserve that thought of separation is therefore
insane, or based in insanity. No wonder life so often
seems insane.

However, no matter how far down that
thought road we travel towards thinking ourselves
separate we go, we can never completely sever
ourselves from what we really are, One with God. God
gave us the Holy Spirit to hold that Oneness for us,
always keeping it near us and reminding us of it every
so often, every opportunity it gets. The holy
instants are the moments of remembering who we are.

Our awareness shifts, if only for an instant, and we
feel the peace, love and joy of God welling up within
us. The Holy Spirit also holds our relationships with
each other as holy. In our effort to reinforce and
defend our thought of separateness, we redefine our
relationships to support our "insane" idea that we are
separate. We expect others to make us happy, to bring
peace or to bring love into our lives from a source
other than God. In this way we make our relationships
"special", piling unreasonable thoughts and
expectations upon them, and when they don't live up to
our expectations, we are certain to blame them.

Our way out of all this is to change our thoughts, change
our thought system. When we allow the Holy Spirit to
guide our thoughts, we find an amazing change in the
way we view the world and our life experiences. We
find ourselves filled with love, peace and joy. And
we find that the world looks very different to us,
also filled with peace, love and joy. So when we
allow the Holy Spirit to guide us to Truth, we will
see what is real and what is illusion. We with know
exactly where to look and see clearly which picture is
real.

... Learning and practicing the principles and lessons of
the Course will help us shift our perception so we can
let go of the ideas and thoughts that keep us from the
awareness of our true selves. Join us as we learn to
be the people and community we know we really are.

How to handle this...

I have someone in my life that always "irks" me. It started off as a brief dating experience which I ended after discovering he has an addiction problem (drugs and alcohol) and I have a tendency to attract addicts.

We've stayed in touch since then and are both involved in the same organization so I can't ever totally escape seeing and/or dealing with him.

He just wrote me a long and hurtful email lashing out at me and once again claiming he has no idea why I ended things with him in the first place and telling me to leave him alone.

My ego wants to fire back and defend myself and remind him of why I chose not to get involved but my spiritual side realizes that isn't so helpful.

I don't know what to do and can't understand why this has been on my mind so much all week, why I can't just let it go and hand it over to God.

Any advice or other ways of looking at this would be very helpful-

I was out and about with some old books to trade at a shop in L.A. I obtained something called EMISSARY OF LIGHT by James F. Twyman. It turned out that the author is a teacher of A Course In Miracles. It's fascinating because I'm becoming a more involved student in the Course. His story has inspired me to begin the Workbook For Students, that my life would be the Teaching in everyday living. Also, my musicianship is itching to express fully and unobstructed, as well as my poetry. But above that, my healing talent beckons me to fulfill my purpose and true role in this world. What a grand adventure!

hey-all, Brothers and Sisters in The Light!

i'm a Deep Courser, and one thing i'd love to hear about from y'all, is what sort of approaches u've taken with people who are put off by the "Father, Son, Brother, etc" language of The Course.

i'm cool w/it, as i see that this all has NOTHING to do w/gender, but for SOME good-hearted folks out there, it's a turn-off, and i'm curious what u've worked out to "sell" that aspect to those that u feel might benefit from having Brother J Course-ing through their veins... ???

"Approximately ~25% of the first five chapters was removed from the published version and completely omitted, other portions were moved around. Discussions of sex were deleted, death thoughts, basic psychology and famous psychologists, Cayce, a wonderful discussion on "The Possession Fallacy," and many other subjects that were decided not to be appropriate for the public edition."

i think this would be very interesting stuff to read..! does anybody know why they have later decided to leave it out?

getting stuck

when you find its just not a priority anymore and far too long has gone on between lessons...
what do you do?

This winter I moved into a state of depression. I was reading the daily lesson and doing the meditation/practice, but somehow life caught up with me, two little ones 4 & 2, heart break drama, other woman drama, looking for a new home... blah blah... all the stuff that has kept me busy.

though I've also noticed an increase in my happiness since letting go of the daily practice I'm focused on getting through each day instead of what wrong in my world.

I guess I've built a bit of an association around depression and course work... its probably absurd.

Has anyone else come up against this kind of wall? what do you do to breakthrough?

What is a Miracle?

A friend and colleague in this ACIM teaching world wrote this
and I thought it was so beautiful and on, I wanted to share it here. Maybe it will start a discussion?

"We have been having discussions about what miracles
really are. Miracles are happening in and around us
all the time. We may not even be aware that they are
happening. Principle #35 says that miracles are
extensions of love and they may not have observable
effects. A miracle is when our thinking shifts to
right thinking, thinking that is aligned with Truth as
God created it. We are constantly barraged with many
"truths" in any number of forms in this world of form.

Most of the time they seem to contradict each other.
God's truth is the common thread that runs through all
of the "truths" we come across. Real truth cannot be
put into words because words are form. Real truth
comes to us through the experience of the present
moment. We know that we have experienced the miracle
when we find ourselves at peace, when we experience a
feeling of deep joy or happiness that goes beyond the
life situation we are in. There is no fear, no hate,
no anger, no judgment, no jealousy, no lack, when we
are in a miracle. The world may be in chaos around
us, but we feel and see peace in the midst of the
chaos when we allow ourselves to be aware of miracles.

They always remind us and help us be aware that we
all are the One Child of God, One with God.

Learning and practicing the principles and lessons of
the Course will help us shift our perception so we

boundaries

I am new to this tribe and have been picking up the Course in Miracles for about 1 year now.
Here is my conundrum:
I have a restraining order against my ex-husband for grabbing my arm and bruising it severely and then throwing me against a wall- all in front of my 6 year old daughter. I called the police and he was arrested. Many of our friends told me that what I did was wrong and that I over-reacted. These people are not in my life anymore.

I have had this Restraining order for 16 months now and my ex constantly harasses me about dropping it. He says that I am holding on to fear and anger and that I should be ashamed of myself-among other colorful adjectives....

I am truely wanting to be a person of love, forgiveness and compassion. What do you do with a person like this, who does not respect personal boundaries and blames everything on everyone else. Am I perpetuating this situation by having this R.O. in place????

Littleness vs. Magnitude in an Instant

My friend Karl has done it again!

Read what he has condensed from
Chapter 15 of the text.

The recognition that God's will is our will is all we
need and it takes no time...an instant. It is the
Holy Instant. What is God's will? That we all be who
we really are, living in perfect peace, love and joy.
How could we want anything else? Yet we think we do.
We think we are something we are not, little. The
idea that we are sinners, or unloved and unworthy is a
result of our little thinking. God thinks of us as
whole and perfect and has never thought otherwise and
never will. God sees us in our magnitude as we always
have been and always will be. Whenever we let go of
our thoughts of littleness and see ourselves as one in
magnitude, as we really are, we create the Holy
Instant. We recognize it because we experience peace,
joy and love. So, our practice must rest on our
willingness to let all of our littleness go. This
instant when magnitude dawns upon us is only as far
away as our desire for it. How much do we desire the
dawning of our magnitude? How long are we willing to
wait in our own littleness before we are willing to
take the step? It's our choice and it matters not
when we choose, for it will always be there for us.
Remember, we can always choose peace instead of
whatever un-peace we have chosen, right at the moment
we realize we want peace.

Learning and practicing the principles and lessons of
the Course will help us shift our perception so we can
let go of the ideas and thoughts that keep us from the
awareness of our true selves. Join us as we learn to
be the people and community we know we really are.

Getting Accustomed to the Course

I am just starting the course, in that I've done 50 of the workbook lessons and then the first review. I currently live in an area where there aren't any study groups. At times, I get a little lost and overwhelmed studying alone. Have you all attended study groups? I am in AA and love this pamphlet a friend gave me "The 12 Step Program and A Course in Miracles" which shows all the overlaps, but still ACIM is pretty intense in how it changes your thinking. I wondered if anyone else felt any difficulties/challenges/confusion early in your study?

Prayer

A few times when I've said a prayer for guidance within the hour someone has approached me and said, "Oh hey, Wayne Dyre's on tv." This happened a couple days ago, so I listened for a few minutes, and he was talking about living your life on purpose, and that really hit home for me. He also said something that stood out, "Don't die with your music still inside you." So, I'm extending those points of meditation to all of you. What does it mean to live your life on purpose? Probably something unique for everyone. For me it's about having intention and presence because we manifest from that space.

The Disappearance of the Universe

Hi,

I just joined this tribe and wanted to share what brought me to "here." I have just finished reading the book by Gary Renard called The Disappearance of the Universe. It really is an incredible preview to the Course. He experienced two ascended masters that were disciples of Jesus...what the church called Saint Thomas the author of part of the Gospel of Thomas and Thaddaeus. They visited Gary over the course of nine years as he went through the Course explaining what Jesus was REALLY like at the time, why he wrote the Course and what many of the students/teachers of the Course miss while going through it. It is a powerful book, once you have read it you will never look at the world the same again.

Here is a link to the book, a preview, some excerpts. I highly recommend reading this book while doing the Course it will make the lessons so much easier to understand.

Competitive Friend

Lately I've been noticing a friend of mine has been directing a lot of competitive energy in my direction, which has been pretty annoying for obvious reasons. I've tried to just ignore it, and recognize that it's her issue, and really has nothing to do with me, but we're so close that it feels very invalidating and making the choice not to respond with competition in return is causing me to feel really passive and trodden on. Unfortunately I can't bring this up with her. We didn't speak for a year because I tried to communicate my feelings. I'm wondering if anyone has ACIM based insight?

I've mostly decided to just distance myself, and let her work through her own process. It's a let down because we have such a history together, and she's being competitive over really weird things, such as making sure I know her wedding dress cost more than mine, or getting jealous when I won a bunch of money in Vegas, instead of being happy for me, or just- constantly constantly constantly promoting herself. Even something so strange as always power walking in front of me with her husband, so me and my husband are following behind.

Is There An Exception?

I do my best to be open to all possibilites, because there is so much that we, as humans, still don't know. In that vain, I'd like to pose a question...

When you get down to the basics, ACIM states that there is only Love and Fear, and whatever is fear does not actually exist.

I, personally, have found this to be true. That (so far) EVERYTHING I observe is either love or fear. I've yet to find an exception. So, I'm throwing out a challenge question.

Can anyone name an exception to the Love/Fear principle?

Spiritual Love versus worldly "love"

The biggest thing I have learnt from the Course in my life is this:

Worldly love is a mixture of sexual desire, novelty, physical pleasure, resentment and vanity. When the physical relationship ends, the resentment and vanity that undercut the relationship appears consciously.

True love is a state of being where givingness is just who you are. The Course sums this up with a really good cognitive exercise.

Love made me loving.

Then take the other attributes of God and apply it to that:

Prosperity made me prosperous
Peace made me peaceful.
Happiness made me happy.
Kindness made me kind.

This establishes cognitively and in language the oneness of the Sonship and helps hold in awareness the reality that God is always Present as the Holy Spirit in everything and everyone at all times. If one feels any kind intention or motive, then that motive in and of itself is Divinity expressing a miracle.

The fact that transcendance of our selfish self-belief is possible at all is not because we are powerful, but because God is POWER.

(Power made me powerful.)

Without the loving support of Divinity the self-honesty and humble perception of the lovingness of all beings would not be possible to us. Love is just WHO WE ARE.

Very cool, huh?

The Course in Miracles is not about love; it's about removing the obstacles to love. The choice to do so is yours.

And it's not about fear: it's about remaining aware, in a contemplative kind of way, that love has no opposite, is one, is all, and is complete and perfect in every way. Again the choice is yours.

Journey without steps,
Goal without grasping:
The direct way
Lets go of wayfaring,
The immediate miracle
Surrenders perfection.

On April 25, 2005, Judge Robert Sweet of the United States
District Court for the Southern District of New York approved an
agreement among the FOUNDATION FOR INNER PEACE, INC. and FOUNDATION
FOR 'A COURSE IN MIRACLES', INC. together with the NEW CHRISTIAN
CHURCH OF FULL ENDEAVOR, LTD., providing, among other things, that
the book title, 'A Course in Miracles,' and its acronym, 'ACIM,' will
no longer be trademarked or servicemarked. This means that the
formerly trademarked and servicemarked book title, A Course in
Miracles and its acronym, "ACIM," are now free to be used by anyone.

The respective foundations do, however, reserve the right to
trademark "ACIM" ONLY in its current log format (a vertical rectangle
containing a starburst and ACIM inside) as used on its current Course
editions. "ACIM" alone will now be free for use by anyone.

What Does This Mean?

In 1993, the Foundation for Inner Peace registered the book
title "A Course In Miracles" and the initials "ACIM" as legal
servicemarks and greatly restricted their use by other organization
and teachers. In 1996 a law suit was initiated between Penguin Books
(the publisher of ACIM at that time), Foundation for Inner Peace and
Foundation for ACIM against New Christian Church of Full Endeavor.
The perceived violations were copyright infringement and servicemark
misuse. The case was broken up into two parts. The copyright portion
was settled in October of 2003 (seven years of litigation) with
United States District Court declaring the original copyright for A
Course In Miracles null and void. The basis of the decision was that
there was too much prior distribution before copyright. The honorable
Judge Robert Sweet presided.

Now, the second part of the case has been decided and the
servicemarks on "A Course In Miracles" and "ACIM" are no longer
valid. This means that anyone can use them without putting a
registered mark (r) after them and citing the "owners" and including
other legal disclaimers and restrictions. Any group, church or person
can now call themselves an "A Course In Miracles" school or teacher.
Any group, church or person can now say they are teaching an "A
Course In Miracles" class. Any web site or email group can call
itself an "A Course In Miracles" group freely without being asked by
lawyers to "cease and desist" and threatened by legal action.

There is a long, long history to this whole business which we
will not get into at this time. Suffice it to say that this is the
last step in a very long process which many people have strong views
on. Some see that this frees up the Course to be all that it was
meant to be and reach many more people. Still, others see this as
diluting the Course by making the use of it's title a meaningless,
non-standardized thing. The Community Miracles Center has tried to
remain actively neutral through the whole legal battle and has
presented cogent arguments from both sides as well as keeping
students updated on the latest legal happenings and ramification.

What is forgiveness ?

Forgiveness recognizes what you thought your brother did to you has not occurred.

An unforgiving thought is one which makes a judgement that it will not raise to doubt, although it is not true.

Personal context: This is where I am wrt to ACIM and myself, in the beginning of part II of the workbook. In the intro it says:

Words will mean little now. We use them but as guides on which we do not now depend. For now we seek direct experience of truth alone.

I've had numerous experiences of this forgiveness, when something in me that is larger than me, finds a place within the smaller me, to recognize forgiveness.

Would love to hear others, how you have experienced forgiveness.

Holy Spirit

Lots of nuggets in the text on the role of the Holy Spirit. I never thought of it as "him" before and actually find it hard to accept. I prefer to think of it as the CAT-5 ethernet cable that connects Christ to God and to each of us.

Unity of Boulder and ACIM

I first learned about ACIM through my sister who attended a rogue Unity Church in Boulder, CO, where Jack Groverland preaches weekly on both the bible intertwined with ACIM. he puts out tapes that I've been listening to since the early 90's (through subscription) and finally got a chance to visit out there and hear it firsthand. Talk about pragmatic religion! The insights into ACIM are fantastic and have made this very difficult book more easy to digest. (Too bad I'm here in "New Hampster"!). Check out Jack and Unity at:

My name is Sarah Berkley, and I used to belong to a place called "The Abbey" In Denver, Colorado. The Abbey was a communal living space, and spiritual center. They taught classes on the Course. I was wondering if anyone out there belonged to such a group or even that group?

Another Chance

So, I've decided to give my lame little tribe another chance because we might not have much to say right now, but I really do think there needs to be a tribe on A Course in Miracles. This is an amazing spiritual text.

Maybe what we need is more of a sense of direction. I was thinking maybe if we wanted to share our goals that we could look at taking a spiritual approach through the Course in reaching them? Any thoughts on this? Or relationship conflict, or etc? Things we're dealing with, and so on.

I'm also wondering who has a copy of the Course and who has read through it? It's sort of difficult to discuss something you aren't familiar with, but if you're here to learn, that's always beneficial.

What does "God" mean to you?

When I first began studying The Course I had a problem with the Christian terms, so I put it down for awhile, and rediscovered it later. I'm wondering if anyone else had the same experience. Not to knock Christianity...

Eventually I came to a place of recognizing that my feelings about existence couldn't be threatened by terminology, and that ACIM isn't dogmatic. It uses words that are commonly understood.

Anyway, for me, God represents the consciousness behind existence. The force that creates galaxies and DNA and artists. For me, it's what sustains life and death and rebirth. A presence.

I was thinking we could go over some lessons.

Any thoughts?

some basics

I am without my book right now (I'm in transition). But for the sake of clarifying some things..I'll make an attempt and if I error, please correct me for we are all students and teachers.

I am a child of GOD..therefore I have GOD potential..however, the human side of me, the "ego", uses tools to keep me separate from the God of me. One of my most important lesson was how the ego uses guilt to keep me separate from my GOD!!!

And how well it worked...bringing in doubt, anger, and so much more.

I'm at the end of finals and moving into a new apartment but as soon as I'm situated, I would like to input more, so keep checking back...LOVE (only pure emotion)
