Has anyone started or attended a Course study group? Was it helpful? What about on-line groups like ACIM Gather - has anyone found that truly helpful? In what way?

I lead a group for three years.
Its a great thing. Teachers learn so much, so fast!
I'm not sure that internet groups are very beneficial.
They have value, but its not a forum for going deep.

I am attending a group. However, we only meet once or twice a month and it is not as often as I would like so I lose interest. I would prefer to meet in person, it is more personal. But whatever works I say!!

Thanks for your answers everyone. One more question, if you don't mind; was it important for you to find a group led by someone who really seemed to understand and apply the Course, or was it just helpful to be with people who were honestly trying to learn?

wow, that is a toughy!! I would have to say , find someone who has at least been in a course at some point in time, but make sure they are not too heady. I got a little upset tonight because a couple of the men were talking futuristic stuff and I kept saying that the future is not what I want to work on, it does not matter...we need to help each other get through the here and now!! They have been through the course a few times I believe. Might want to attend several groups and see where they are at.

In my estimate, what matters most is the heart intention to
use the material in an authentic way. I've met lots of groups
where the intention seemed to be to make ACIM a personal
Intellectual Posession and system of thought.
Fundamentalists abound. So please look for the application.
Also-- Jesus said "By their fruit you know them"
          Very wise advice.

The first group I went to it seemed as if everybody else had a firm grasp on it and felt like I was way out of the loop. They took turns reading passages, but there wasn't a whole lot of discussion. Looking back, it may have just been that no one asked for clarifications or insights.

The second group I attended was with a couple who had a good grasp on it and had very good intentions. There was also a member who was very cerebral, had been studying it for a while, had a clear understanding of it and she had a gift for translating things in ways that I could understand better. How lucky am I?!!!

When the student is ready the teacher will appear.

That is the challenge for me too, one group that I like and is right down the block from me almost seems "technical" in its understanding of the course, and the two facilitator's commentary seems so hard to relate to and sort of science-fiction like. The other group I go to is both philosophical and practical in its teaching of the course. I guess it all depends on what works for you and what kind of thinker/learner you are.
