do the first lesson on one day, the second the next and so on. "Stop" means for today, not for tomorrow.

Yes exactly. I'd bet that's why you are confused, There's a systemic logic to the lessons. No it is not difficult, in fact the first month or so of lessons say "do this only for one minute" and "stop if this brings up fear" or "remember this once an hour." The lessons require a minimum of us initially, later they will ask us to look deeply, but mostly its training in being "a little willing" to change. Do it in sequence. I promise amazing results.

The biggest illusion is the belief in a self. Which ACIM distinguishes from Self. I really recommend doing the daily lessons starting ASAP, like yesterday! It will make all the difference for you. I promise. If your feelings alone could leads you to God, then you'd probably already be completly happy. Clearly, we can all use spiritual education-- unlearning false beliefs and focusing on reality. But let me point out that wrong education is worse that no education-- belief systems contradict each other-- one says kill those who have hurt me and I'll be happy; another says forgive them and I'll be happy. Therfore beliefs or "knowledge" won't do it for you either. That's why the lessons work. They ask you to reconsider every belief you have about everything. One year working with the lessons will move you dramatically in sorting out the true from the untrue.
