Hi all. I'm new here. I was listening to Marianne Williamson on "relationships" this morning in the car. It was perfect - exactly what I needed to hear. I love it when that happens!
Anyway, that brought me here. I figured it was time to study the course again.
Hello!

Marianne is part of how I came to the Course. I am a newbie. It's still confusing to me, but I love it.

I am newbie too. I try to read a lesson a day as I am out walking my dog in the morning. It's a nice way to start the day, plus I have a little time to think about the lesson all day.

You know, I think that a newbie can maybe start with the daily lessons after reading the fifty principles...

The text is very deep philosophy -- complicated and confusing because of the unique uses of terms. In the Original unedited manuscript, the text starts with the "definition of terms" found in the Manual of the "Wapnick edition"

My teachers, Jack and Eularia Luckett, used to refer to the text as the lable on the pill bottle and the lessons as being the medicine itself. Start taking the medicine! We can find out about the why, the theory, the how it works etc. later.

I don't really care for the term "newbie." It sort of defines rank. I think it's good to recognize that the Course is a personal reminder of what you already are. It's more about awakening, and removing the junk posing as you, than it is about becoming something.

          Thanks Mark,
Someone else told me that too, so that's what I am doing. I try to read a lesson a day. I bought the little flash cards, which I like.

Does anyone use the tapes or CDs?
I was wondering how you liked them.
Since I have an hour commute, I thought that might be a good idea.

Yuppers-- that's exactly what I did.

The Flash cards are great because you can carry your daily lesson around with you and refer to it throughout the day. Or you can post the lesson title on your monitor ... I did that too.

I used the tapes... I would listen to "Accept This Gift" (excerpts form ACIM with spoken by Richard Thomas with music by Steven Halpern) or "The Ark of Peace" (read by Beverly Hutchinson) every moring while shaving, showering... or in the background while cooking etc. I think just having the subconscious mind hearing it repeatedly whether you pay attention or not has its ideas go deeply into your heart.
I did that for at least a year at first.

It took me about 3 years to read through all three books. But I was very committed... I had agreed to facilitate a group so I had to be up to speed for the others... You know teaching is learning, learning is teaching.

Great to hear about the diverse approaches,
I struggled with the daily lessons,
              until one day,
I decided to focus upon the Manual for Teachers,
and found the development of trust description,
that made all the difference for me.

Quite possibly we all have our own path where we find ourselves wrt
              to the Course.

I listen to the "Accept This Gift" and the other CD's in that set that Richard Thomas does. It's very good. I go to sleep listening to a different part a few times a week. I do find I sleep better from doing that. That subliminal thing.
