Last night I began reading the Textbook from the beginning. I have read it through once before and read the beginning chapters about 3 other times, never got very far into it for some reason those times. Usually my method over the years has been to open up the book randomly and read one section of one chapter. It always seems to fit the situation in which I find myself that day when I do that.
I have heard some people say that reading the text is a little hard. Not that enjoyable or something. There are times when I would have to agree with that. Obviously in the several times I have started reading the ACIM textbook since I first did ACIM many years ago that is how it seemed to me. Well last night I took the textbook to bed and read from a relaxed frame of mind, at the end of my day, when I have nothing I need to get done afterwards. I was able to read slowly and I found I really enjoyed it.
I am going to read the text slowly like that this time. Whether I read it at the end of the day, or earlier, I am going to read it very slowly and let the words come one sentence at a time to me.
For me, it's when I am trying to rush through the pages, because I have a time limit, things to do afterwards, etc. that the words seem too hard to follow. It can all seem too much.
This time I am going to not push myself to read any set amount. I read the first chapter last night, and quite enjoyed doing so. If I only do one paragraph next time I pick it up, or the whole next chapter, I will do it slowly and with care. I find it quite enjoyable.
I am reading the original edition version of A Course in Miracles.
Do any of you have some thoughts you'd like to share on how you read the textbook? (Whichever version you prefer.)

Re: Reading from the textbook
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 11:05 PMThis is beautiful.
First thing I tell people when I teach is that the text
is a six hundred-some page poem. I think that takes
a lot of pressure off having to figure out every word.
I think for ACIM to work for people, they have to like
words and language. What makes it hard for a lot of
people is the complexity of the language. It's easy to
be kinda hypnotized by it and miss a lot. But if you take
it with joy, maybe even sing the words, its evocative
language finds its way into your heart.

Re: Reading from the textbook
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 3:01 PMThe original publishers of ACIM, The Foundation for Inner Peace, have a new release, the third edition of ACIM. I just ordered it to see what it is like. And I like it.
It matches exactly the words in the first edition from 1975, which became available in 1976. Except that numbers have been added to paragraphs and sentences since then, I guess for ease of discussing the content. The font is easily readable, almost as large as the original 1975 version.
I am among the first persons to do ACIM, having started it before ACIM was published anywhere. In my opinion the *original edition* is the first edition from The Foundation from Inner Peace. Not the Hugh Lynn Cayce version, or the URtext.
This third edition can be ordered directly from the original publishers at:
www.acim.org/
The soft cover version is $28.00 (plus tax if you are in CA) and $1.19 for shipping. The new soft cover edition includes the Text, the Workbook for Students, the Manual for Teachers, Clarification of Terms, and the supplements Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice, and The Song of Prayer.

This is a recommendation from me on which version I believe to be the true version. If you want a copy of A Course in Miracles rather than just the on-line copy that I put a link up to previously, I'm bringing this link here to this tribe. It seems there is a little confusion in the other thread about what the original edition is and where to buy one.
I hope this link is of help to those of you who are interested in the original edition and where to buy one, if you don't already have one of the earlier releases.
I highly recommend doing A Course In Miracles. If you haven't started yet, you can get started today by clicking on the on-line version in the post above. Start with lesson 1 in the Workbook for Students. Do not do more than one lesson per day. And it is not necessary to believe what the lesson says. The text can be read at anytime. Either while you are doing the 365 daily lessons or after you've completed them.
I am doing the Course now for the second time. Many of us who have completed the Course at one time in our lives do it again later on. A refresher course, I guess it can be called, when doing it for the second or third time. I'll never forget the first time, though. It changed the way I perceive this world, and the way I relate with my brothers and sisters here in this life we share together. Miracles happen naturally, and I am so very grateful that this Course came my way all those years ago. It has taught me that this is so.
"Miracles are seen in light."
- lesson 91.
