So, I've decided to give my lame little tribe another chance because we might not have much to say right now, but I really do think there needs to be a tribe on A Course in Miracles. This is an amazing spiritual text.

Maybe what we need is more of a sense of direction. I was thinking maybe if we wanted to share our goals that we could look at taking a spiritual approach through the Course in reaching them? Any thoughts on this? Or relationship conflict, or etc? Things we're dealing with, and so on.

I'm also wondering who has a copy of the Course and who has read through it? It's sort of difficult to discuss something you aren't familiar with, but if you're here to learn, that's always beneficial.

Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God."

Studied the Course for over 10 years....... made it to lesson 286....

I agree, it's far too important to let the tribe fade....

        Hi Robin,

'A Course in Miracles' is a spiritual teaching that was written by a woman named Helen Schucman in the late 60's and took seven years to get on paper. The content of the Course came to her in visions and messages that she received from who many believe was Jesus.

Weird because she was Jewish and agnostic and would not have her name associated to the book until her death.

She was the head of the Psychaitry Department at Columbia University in New York, which was experiencing great upheaval at the time. In a state of total frustration she said to her associates at a meeting that she had had enough of the turmoil and dysfunction in the department and was committed to finding a better way of improving the situation. Bill Thetford who was sitting in the meeting stood up and said that he joined with her in finding this 'better way'.

Soon thereafter, Helen started hearing a voice in her head that kept repeating the same message: "This is a Course in Miracles... start making notes..."

Helen thought she was crazy and went to Bill Thetford and told him what was happening.... he convinced her to start writing down what she was hearing, and then he would take her short hand notes and transcribe them into plain english.

This continued for seven years... it caused great turmoil in her life, and the resulting book (actually 3 books) became the teaching wee know now.

Basically the entire book can be summed up by the following statement:

"Nothing real can be threatened.... nothing unreal exists.... herein lies the Peace of God."

The Course does not teach that it is the only course, but just one of many ways to the truth, hence the name 'A course' instead of 'THE course'.

A great starter book to introduce you to ACIM is Marianne Williamson's book titled "A Return to Love".

i have been on a spiritual quest for some time now and lo and behold an inspirational LADY was placed directly in my path about 5 years ago. i could not have bypassed her unless i was to bulldoze her. it so happened she was leading a study group in CIM. (right here in the bible belt of OKLA) She has since moved to Colorado and i sure miss her.

so i was really thrilled to find this site. they still have a few group studies here but since i'm in school now, my time is filled. i have gone to the official site but i'm so intimidated by big word using professionals. (my ego)

i urge u to see where this goes...and i'll dig out my book. There's also an overview book that gives a little better description about the connections with terms we're used to.

one last word. i came from a background of Methodist, Catholic, Pentocostal and Peyote man. i have asked questions to all these denominations (plus some) and CIM was the one i was at most peace with. This comes when my ego has such control here and i needed a reminder.

It sort of surprised me when I noticed there were actually posts on this tribe. :) Wanting to delete it was a reflection of my own ego, ie, "Delete it quick before someone notices I initiated something no one is interested in."

I'm glad you're here. Marianne Williamson *is* a great place to start. I love that book. Also, Wayne Dyre lectures on KPBS pretty frequently. I prefer him as a motivational speaker, than as a writer, but everyone's different.

Oh, and thanks for clarifying things for everyone, Bruce; I forgot to explain where CIM came from.

yes. thanks bruce and thanks Piper. I am a novice so I will mostly be just listening for a while. But I wanted to reiterate for those with more experience and knowledge that there are folks listening in that are wanting to learn from you

Hey to all ... I just joined today, and I guess this tribe is rapidly picking up. The strange thing is I really just stumbled upon it in the list of other tribes in this category, I wasn't searching for it.

I have not read ACIM but was recommended to read The Disappearance of the Universe which has prompted my further interest in the real thing.

I'll be watching and learning. Thanks to you all.

Hello all of you out there,
I too am reading The Disappearance of the Universe and it's fascinating to say the least. I hope this site continues to grow so I can glean and self-explore the knowledge and lessons from others as well as sharing a few of mine also.
May I ask where to obtain the ACIM book(s)?

I did ACIM in the 80's. I read the text at least twice back then. I am currently re-reading the text (approaching page 400) slowly this time.

Amazing syncronicity when I first got it. And now, it's perfect again.

Don't know what else to say. If you're called to read it, then it's for you.

Thanks Piper for the location. There is a Border's bookstore here and I hope to find it there.

After reading Disappearance of the Universe, I feel I must take this journey a bit further to become enlightened. I hope to find a little help in the course with some guidance of this tribe.

The world isn't changing, but I am.
